From The Archives: Sikorsky S-58 Transfers 103 Tons In Six Hours

We reported on a Sikorsky S-58 helicopter that was seen in San Diego performing a lifting job to move 100 tons of heating and ventilating equipment on a 13-acre. roof of a missile plant being built for Convair Astronautics Divisions of General Dynamics Corp. The job required 70 quarter-mile flights and was completed in six hours.
The airlift consisted of picking up cargo stockpiled on a parking lot, carrying it to the factory, and lowering it while a crew of riggers hand-jockeyed the units into precise position.
See the images, including one where a spotter in the doorway of the helicopter directs the helicopter pilot in a disengaging maneuver and one showing the helicopter carrying one crate weighing 3,400 lb.
