Christmas Conversation
December 22nd, 2007 by Sonja

LightGirl “Mom, what do you want for Christmas?”

Me “I’d really like world peace. … but I’d settle for peace in the house.”

long pause complete with sardonic look on LightGirl’s face …

“I was thinking of something I could buy!”

“Because if you haven’t noticed this house is FILLED with stubborn people.

So. Is there anything I can … BUY?”

At which moment I was practically on the floor in laughter. That’s my daughter for you. Almost fourteen, full of herself, and tellin’ it like it is. The funny thing is that she’s usually dead on.

Our house … filled with stubborn people, attempting to live out the Kingdom, incarnation and all. And isn’t that really much of the problem with attaining world peace too? Our world, filled with stubborn people. Hmmm … kinda makes you think.

People. They’re at the root of all the problems. 😀

And buying ’em something only helps for a tiny while.

LOL … Patrick, I mean this in the kindest possible way, but I don’t think I want you and my daughter within speaking distance. The two of you might prophetically combust!! 😀

At the very least it would be uncomfortable news for me! 😉

Ha! I am a stubborn person from a long line of stubborn people with stubborn gets, so I totally get this interaction :) Your daughter sounds fabulous.

I was just talking with my best friendd about gifts and how it isn’t so much the buying of a gift as the buying of a gift that shows you know the person that counts. We all want to feel known and valued. And maybe on a broader scale the same applies: perhaps recognizing the concerns and dreams of other nations in a spirit of understanding and friendship is as important as the “gifts” we give in diplomacy or aid.
