Now That’s More Like It

We’re back at camp again.

Ten hours in the car.  That’s what the trip should take.  Ten hours.  Not … I don’t know … however many it took to get from Penn State to Albany in June.  That was a horrible trip.  In fact, I think it took longer to get from Penn State to Albany than it took us to get from Virginia to here today.  Go figure.

We left at 5:43 this morning.  We arrived at 3:50 this afternoon.  3 stops.  Bathroom, coffee and gas.

The coolest thing we saw was the uprights of the Delaware Memorial Bridge shrouded in clouds because it was so foggy.  That was really neat.

The coolest conversation we had was about the wall between Mexico and the US … this was sparked by an article in a National Geographic magazine I brought to read in the car.  There was a quote in the article that I think sums it all up really well … The wall is “A police solution to an economic problem.”  So we talked a lot about what that meant.  The LightChildren were digging it.

So … we’re here.  LightGirl and her cousin are playing an on-line game.  LightBoy, his cousin and her friend are playing card games.   LightHusband, LightUncle2 and I are avoiding making dinner … should be a fun evening.

Ugh that’s a long drive. And you do it more than once a summer?

You have my full respect for doing that in one go with the kids! That is how long our journey from where we live was to the Scottish Highlands, but we broke it up with an overnight stay. Have a great time.

hehehe … well, you have to remember that we’ve been coming up here since the kids were babies. Every year. They know the road as well as we do and are very accustomed to the trip. LightHusband drives, they read and/or listen to their music, we talk some, I read and we generally while away the time. We know how long it’s going to take … there’s one really long stretch that always takes longer than it seems it should, but doesn’t (if you know what I mean). Then we get here … and we’re happy!!

It’s funny because LightHusband’s brother and sis-in-law live about 5 hours south of us. They have 6 yo twins. When the twins were 15 months old they drove to Vermont for a family reunion. Needless to say, because the twins were so little and the trip was so long it was quite a horrible journey. But now they’ll never drive that trip again based on that one time. I think their kids would do fine if they broke it up and had some fun with the journey … but they’ve set their minds against it. Sooo …. it’s funny how some things really are an issue of mind over matter. Some aren’t … but ….
