So I wonder … do aviation engineers study pictures like this when they’re designing helicopters and things?

    i’m pretty sure they do. i’m always amazed by how much we have to learn from nature, and how much we haven’t yet thought of.

    Glad to see the birds finally relented and stuck around when Ross had his camera. Now if the hummers will just talk to the cardinals in VA….

    Wow! This is such a beautiful photo. When I was back east, I sat in my parents’ backyard for hours trying to snap a picture or two of the hummingbirds that flew around like mad. I wasn’t quick enough on the draw, though, so I wound up only with shots of things like their croquet set.
